Improve your home’s energy efficiency with spray foam insulation, an environmentally friendly option that can reduce your heating and cooling costs significantly. Kyle Stumpenhorst from RR Buildings uses the Great Stuff ProTM 14 Dispensing Gun to demonstrate the different applications for this high-density spray foam, including sealing gaps and cracks, guarding against pests and ensuring airtight window and door installations.

HD Spray Foam Insulation: The Key to Year-Round Comfort and Savings

When you use spray foam in the construction of your new home, you’ll get an R-value of 3.2 to 6.5 per inch, depending on whether it’s open-cell or closed-cell. The R-value indicates the material’s ability to resist heat flow, with a higher value meaning more resistance.

The benefit of this type of insulation is that it conforms to the unique structure of your home, filling nooks and crannies where other types of insulation might not be able to. This can reduce energy costs by a significant amount because it creates an air-tight seal that prevents heat from escaping in the summer and cold from entering in the winter.

Another advantage of this spray insulation is that it provides excellent coverage, insulating more space than fiberglass batts can. It can also be used in existing homes to re-insulate wall cavities and attics.

This type of insulation is sprayed in place, and it’s best installed during the rough-in stage when drywall can be applied quickly. It should only be sprayed by professional technicians who understand the proper application techniques. Homeowners should leave the house during the process and wait 24 hours before reentering, as spray foam insulation off-gasses large amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs can be very irritating to the lungs, and they’re especially harmful for children and pets.
